LARAAJI
Moon Piano ALL SAINTS
American soundscaper’s nocturnal musings, recorded in a Brooklyn church.
Earth’s only satellite exerts a continuous yet physically imperceptible force on our planet, and its visibility and remoteness has perennially inspired musicians from Debussy to Pink Floyd to Brian Eno. It was under this influence that Laraaji recorded Moon Piano. It was tracked during the same sessions as predecessor Sun Piano but, whereas the latter was sonically spare and full of major chords, hinting at old hymns, parlour songs and the blues via George Gershwin, Moon Piano is more circumspect and meditative. The album comprises an improvised set edited down into mainly short, slow moving pieces, as exemplified by the hushed Stillness.
