Fish dealt with some tumultuous personal issues on 2004’s Field Of Crows, but that fine record was an emotional bagatelle compared to its searing follow-up.
13th Star emerged in the light of his painful break-up with his fiancée, Mostly Autumn singer Heather Findlay, in 2007. Composed largely in collaboration with bassist and trusted lieutenant Steve Vantsis, much of Fish’s ninth solo album was ready before the split, but was rewritten to parse his heartbreak, and this is the angry, morose, dispirited and powerful result.
