THE Head of Steam museum in Darlington is to restore the replica of Locomotion No. 1, which was made by apprentices at engineering firm Cleveland Bridge for the Stockton & Darlington Railway’s 150th anniversary in 1975.
It is hoped the replica can be returned to steam to lead a re-enactment of the S&D’s opening day as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations in 2025. This could include a run over Skerne Bridge, the world’s oldest railway bridge still in use, and possibly beyond that too (see also page 15).
