Tank wagon traffic between Grangemouth Refinery and Dalston Oil Depot (on the Cumbrian Coast route, south of Carlisle) is due to cease in the next few weeks. Owner Petroineos says its contract for rail deliveries to the site, which is preparing to close, expires at the end of this year. It has incurred financial losses at Dalston as well as at Grangemouth, which is expected to stop refining fuel next year and be converted into a terminal for imported finished fuels. On October 29, Colas Rail Freight Class 70 No. 70813 approaches Carlisle station with empty tank wagons from Dalston en route back to
Grangemouth.
