AFTER nine years of mainline running, ex-LMS 4-6-0 No.46100 Royal Scot ran its farewell mainline trip on December 3, a private charter called ‘The Chairman’s Special’.
The 1927-built 4-6-0 ran outbound from London Victoria to Canterbury East,returning via Folkestone, Paddock Wood and East Croydon. Departing nine minutes late from the capital, the train reached its outbound destination over a minute early and returned to London at 16.41.

This marked the end of a popular mainline career for the engine,having spent the years 1963-1989 on display at Butlins Skegness prior to being moved to Bressingham Steam Museum.
Returned to steam in early 2009, Royal Scot ran for a few weekends in unfinished LMS Crimson Lake at theWest Somerset and Llangollen Railways before being stopped for rectification work.This was completed in September 2015, followed by running-intrials at the SevernValley Railway.
