Brookfield back in action at Mangapps

THE engineering team at Mangapps Farm has recently completed a major overhaul on Bagnall 0-6-0PT Brookfield (2613/1940).

The locomotive has undergone major boiler work, including the firebox, plus a repaint. The chassis was fettled at the same time. The locomotive is of interest in that it was actually designed as a metre gauge machine, one of a batch of five originally destined for Turkey. The engine was completed as a standard gauge machine instead and diverted to home use, ending up at Brookfield foundry after the war, from where it was preserved.

There are three other locomotives at Mangapps. The best known is Fox, Walker 0-6-0ST Minnie (358/1878) which is currently a static exhibit, but there are moves to investigate the possibility of returning it to working order.
