HAND ON WITH THE SPECTRUM

WHAT KIND OF FIRST IMPRESSION DOES THIS NEW MACHINE MAKE?

» [The Spectrum] The visual options aren’t overwhelming, but it’d be nice to have a bit more to tweak.

Ahead of the launch of The Spectrum in November, we were given the chance to spend some time with a prototype system for this feature. We should stress that it wasn’t near final – while most of the system software features were available, we had a very limited selection of games to play and USB loading was disabled. As for the hardware itself, it already looks very similar to a real Spectrum but with the word ‘Retro’ replacing the classic Sinclair logo, and naturally a different set of ports on the back. However, we couldn’t judge the keyboard as the final machine is set to have a number of production differences, of which the rubber is one, alongside differently coloured keyboard art.
