This is an unpopular take, but I’ve always preferred Banjo-Kazooie to Super Mario 64. There’s no denying that Nintendo’s offering is arguably one of the most important games of all time, but I do love the shenanigans of that bear and bird. From that chaotic musical opening to the final showdown with the rhyming Gruntilda, it’s a game that’s bubbling over with charm and character and it left a huge impression on me the first time I played it. I went through it again a few years back and it has lost none of its appeal.
