Miranda is ten years younger than me, a slip of a thing really. When young, a gap of ten years seems enormous. But as you age, gaps get evened out. Traditionally, men have married or shacked up with younger women. That’s not a sexist statement, just look around. It’s the way nature seems to have ordained it. Is it because women mature before men and when growing up are not attracted to callow, spotty youths? My late wife was two years younger than me. I considered her to be my age. In reality, she was born middle-aged, and middle-class, despite coming from the same sort of council estate as me.
