SHOWRUNNER EXCLUSIVE
Darkness Rising
A new big bad threatens the Stargirl universe in season two
“This was before he tried the hyaluronic acid…”
BY THE END OF Stargirl’s first season, the titular character and the Justice Society of America – including Hourman, Wildcat and Dr Mid-Nite – had prevailed over the Injustice Society of America and saved the day. So surely the team of teenagers should now be taking a well-deserved break and returning to their normal lives. But that’s not the case. When the DC series returns, Stargirl, aka Courtney, remains vigilant in scoping out trouble and embracing her destiny.
“Courtney believes her cosmic staff still lights up,” showrunner Geoff Johns tells Red Alert.
“There’s still work to do. For her, it’s a real calling. In the first episode, Courtney tells her stepfather Pat, ‘The staff chose me when my own father didn’t’. It really is at the root of a lot of her drive, that she feels worthy with the staff. She feels she has purpose and belongs and is accepted. She lays a lot of that within the identity of being Stargirl.
