“There goes the year, in doctor’s bills and sleeping pills,” as Siobhan Fahey sang on her album #3 – while it’s been vet bills, I feel like I closed my eyes and another 12 months of scifi, fantasy and horror have whizzed past. Is that something that old people say? Do I have to acknowledge that too? I can’t be the only one where time is all over the place – and I don’t mean in a Time Lord sort of way, sadly. Still, 2021 finally brought us Dune –a film that continues to take my breath away after seeing it six times – and confirmation of Part Two to come, as well as three new Star Trek seasons, a new adventure for Doctor Who, and a promise of a continued future for the show. The year appears to be going out on a high with Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections, but unfortunately we’re not able to bring you any coverage of either as apparently no-one involved in either production was available in time.
