When British paddle steamer services were in steady decline 60 years ago, visitors to Weymouth were able to enjoy the unlikely spectacle of two rival paddlers. Both vessels had been withdrawn as uneconomic after long service with their established owners but, instead of being broken up, they were purchased by individuals who saw that they might yet have a future. Richard Clammer recalls those memorable few weeks in the summer of 1964, when both these historic ships were running out of Weymouth.
