Ring, the video doorbell company, offered customers a Grand Prize of one million dollars if they could capture scientific evidence of an extraterrestrial on their device by November 3, 2023. According to the official rules, the submissions were required to be reviewed by a space and extraterrestrial expert (with a PhD in meteorology and astrobiology) to make sure the video met specific criteria and was not altered. As of late November (when this issue went to press), nobody claimed the million-dollar prize.
Ring also offered a second, considerably smaller, “Out of this World Prize” for an alternate category—the best five videos “recorded with a Ring device documenting someone or something related to extraterrestrials.” To win one of the $500 gift cards, these submissions were required to score the highest based on how humorous, creative, and engaging the videos were. For this video submission category, the company encouraged “extraterrestrial communication” through the voice function of the doorbell, as well as costumes, accessories, and homemade spacecrafts.
