Sporting Gun  |  Aug / 324
Guest edited by gundog trainer, author and field trial judge Ben
Randall, the August issue of Sporting Gun celebrates the vital role
dogs play in shooting, fieldsports and the wider countryside
community. Combining expert training insight, practical shooting
advice and a deep respect for sporting traditions, the issue reflects
Ben’s belief that gundogs can help secure the future of shooting by
promoting responsibility, high standards and a positive connection
with those outside the sport.
In his guest editor’s foreword, Ben reflects on a lifetime
shaped by shooting and gundogs, and the lessons they have taught him about patience, discipline and humility. Looking to the future, he
writes, “The future of shooting will not be protected by being
defensive or by assuming people should simply understand us.”
Instead, he argues that the sport must be protected through
“standards, education, responsibility and by showing the very best
of what our community represents.” His words set the tone for an
issue focused on gundogs, good conduct and the responsibility
everyone within fieldsports has to safeguard the future of shooting.
Inside this issue, readers will find a broad mix of shooting,
gundogs and countryside culture. From pigeon decoying and clay
shooting competition to shotgun and rifle reviews, game handling,
stalking and the dogs and people who have shaped sporting lives.
