Sports Insight  |  Vol 17 Issue 156
It’s a worrying time for
retailers. If times weren’t
hard enough the coronavirus
COVID-19 will, no doubt,
have a major impact on the
industry.
The threat of the virus
has already led to Nike and
Patagonia, in the US, and
Columbia, in Europe, to close
stores to help prevent its spread.
We have already seen major
sporting events being cancelled,
postponed or suspended. The
fi nal weekend of the Six Nations
saw no games played, elite
football in England has been
suspended until April 3, at the
least, the 2020 Virgin Money
London Marathon has been
postponed until October 4, and
Euro 2020 has been put back to
2021.
With the postponement of
the 2020 London, Brighton
and Manchester Marathons,
the media coverage which puts
running at the forefront of
customers’ minds at this time
of year has disappeared. If you
