Phil Collins talks about starting up the UK’s first board game subscription crate and offers a look ahead at 2017’s monthly arrivals
Interview by Matt Jarvis
When and why did you decide to start Board Game Crate?
My wife and I have been into board games ever since we met. When we lived in the centre of our town it was very easy to get to our local board game shop. About two years ago we moved out of the town and into a smaller village and found we weren’t getting our board game fix quite as often.
We had been running a similar subscription service for Magic: The Gathering for a few years and began to wonder about taking what we had learnt from running that and bringing it over to board games. So we did.
We ran our first crate in October 2016 and the response was amazing. We packed more crates in that first month than we had thought we’d do in the first six months. Since then it’s gone from strength to strength.
