Wingspan is something of a modern classic. The base game offers you a huge array (170) birds to bother by enticing them into your habitats and then, er, activating them? Look, we don’t think you should spend any time ‘activating’ real birds (nor time thinking about what that phrase could possibly mean…) but Wingspan offers a great crossover game for many families and gaming groups. It’s probably something to do with having some of the most beautiful artwork in games, cool bird facts, and the ‘tuck’ mechanic (which is what it’s called when one bird eats another one). It’s a good mix of the brutality of nature, pretty pictures and low interaction between players. You’ll learn something too about many of the birds as you contemplate whether it’s worth adding this massive swan-alike bird to your designated birdzone for the points, for work on a different combo.
