Many years ago whilst demonstrating for St Cuthberts Mill at the NEC Birmingham, I noticed a square, hardbound sketchbook on one of the shelves. It contained 28 pages of Saunders Waterford 140lb HP paper, a stock I had seldom used in the past. Previously all my sketchbooks contained Rough paper and all my sketching was done with pencil and watercolour, so it wasn’t surprising that my first sketches in the new book were done that way. I wasn’t so keen on drawing on the smooth surface with pencil so started to use pens, and have been doing so ever since.
