Harris Rendezvous, collage and watercolour, 9¾312¼in (25331cm)
Celebrating The Artist’s 90th year, PaintersOnline has been setting a series of monthly challenges, inviting artists to enter work inspired by key events in 1931, the year of our launch. To find out more go to www.paintersonline.co.uk/competitionsThe June challenge was won by Jenny Harris for her work Rendezvous. ‘This piece was done following an art club talk on Surrealism,’ writes Jenny, ‘a fun theme to work with as you can let your imagination run wild! I started with watercolour washes to represent sky, sea and sand for a beach scene, but otherwise had no idea how I was going to develop it, so spent some time looking through various magazines and my store of cuttings for inspiration and suitable images. I wanted to produce something interesting with perhaps the hint of a narrative, so Rendezvous seemed an appropriate choice of title for the finished picture. I have been a member of PaintersOnline for the past six years. It’s a lively, very friendly community and I regularly take part in the competitions and challenges.’ All winning works will be published in the March 2022 issue of The Artist.
