The Lady  |  2nd June
Dear Readers,
The racing season is almost upon us and even if you, like me, are not a huge fan, there is something mesmerising about the big race meetings. The hats, the clothes, the sense of occasion. The question of whether HM The Queen will finally win at the Derby this year? Regardless, she has already won in the art stakes because as Andy Ash discovers at Buckingham Palace this week, her collection of Canaletto paintings is the finest in the world. It is an accolade shared by the ladies who worked in the Women’s Land Army through two world wars and we are delighted to be celebrating their centenary. We’re also delighted to be celebrating the return of Aidan Turner as Poldark with a wonderfully upbeat interview. ‘Will I keep my shirt on?’ he teases. Nick Clegg’s dilemmas are more homely. He admits he would love to have a dog, but his wife Miriam says only if he looks after it… Will it ever happen, Nick? Our health special feature this week encourages us to give up sugar. But again, will it ever happen? There are some delicious sugar-free cakes to tempt you…
Until next week,
best wishes
Sam Taylor, Editor
