Mary-Anne Bartlett runs Art Safari, a company that takes interested artists of all skill levels on painting holidays to several countries in Africa. To capture their subjects, participants practice truly studying what’s in front of them: distances between focal points; angles of the flow of a river or hanging branch; the curve of an animal’s back; the height comparison between members of a herd; and of course the subtle variations in colour tone.
