NOT much has been heard from Doug Paisley since 2018’s Starter Home, but the Canadian songwriter clearly hasn’t been idle. Due in mid- March, Say What You Like OUTSIDE MUSICis culled from a batch of 250 unrecorded Paisley songs over the last decade, pared down by producer and fellow countryman Afie Jurvanen, aka Bahamas. Folk, country and leftfield pop collide on a set that examines the vagaries of middle age and the disappointments of love. Also out that month, Edge Of Everywhere finds singer-songwriter Doug Levitt document his travels across the US by Greyhound bus over the past dozen years, sharing the tales of those he met along the way. As producer Trina Shoemaker puts it, this is “America through the eyes of people who don’t usually get a chance to tell their stories”. It’s all part of a wider project that involves two BBC radio and TV documentaries about Levitt’s journeys, both featuring excerpts from Edge Of Everywhere, due for broadcast later this year. And esteemed bluegrass fiddler Michael Cleveland returns with Lovin’ Of The Game COMPASS, which offers a dazzling fusion of styles. “This album is more than just pure tradition, it’s a little bit of a departure for me,” he explains. Guests include Billy Strings, Béla Fleck, Charlie Starr, The Travellin’ McCourys, Dan Tyminski, Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien and Vince Gill.
