Some much sought-after rock’n’roll vinyl will be up for grabs in the ‘October Drop’ Record Store Day 2020 event. To make allowances for the impact of coronavirus, the traditional Record Store Day has been replaced by three individual ‘drops’ – the first two took place on 29 August and 26 September. On 24 October, Carl Perkins’ last European concert, in Paris on 30 March 1996, will be available on double blue vinyl with an additional blue flexidisc. The die-cut gatefold jacket comes with a 12-page booklet. The release, which we review on page 86, will be strictly limited to 1,000 copies worldwide.
Also available for the first time on vinyl as an RSD 2020 exclusive, Ume/Mercury are releasing an early mix of Johnny Cash’s 1988 album Classic Cash: Hall Of Fame Series. Mastered from newly-discovered tapes from the Mercury vaults and pressed on 180g vinyl, the two-disc set features 20 re-recordings of classics by The Man In Black, including Get Rhythm, I Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues and Ring Of Fire.
