Interviews
Make the most of your research interviews by following expert advice from Tarja Moles
Interviewing is a great technique to have in your research toolbox: not only does it help uncover information that resides in the minds of experts, but it’s also useful when you want to delve into individuals’ life stories, experiences and/or views.
Before the interview
Preparation is essential for a successful interview. First of all, you need to decide what you want to achieve: What information do you need? Who is the best person to interview? Do you want to conduct an in-depth interview with someone who lived during the war so that you can make your novel more authentic? Do you need an expert quote so that you can use it to back up your argument in an article? Or perhaps you need an eyewitness account of an event for your news story?
