Counting up
Judge Meg Marsden tallies the numbers to announce the winner of our Number Poetry Competition

It would seem that many of us who delight in words can be left numb by numbers. Without exception, all entries for this subscriber-only poetry competition took the theme at face value, focusing on numbers, as in one to infinity, rather than the more playful (perhaps a little too playful) concept of feeling more numb.
The subject itself could appear rather challenging, but no, our members came up with a vast array of imaginative topics. But before itemising some of the eclectic works it must be emphasised that when entering a poem for competition, it needs to be accurate in both spelling and grammar throughout and no typos. Do check and check again as a good piece may be set aside even though the content is worthy because of such errors. And that’s a shame. Also make a habit of reading your finished piece out loud as this can sometimes reveal an area that may need a little tweaking.
