As an author, I often get asked why I write young adult fantasy. Maybe it’s because I’m not a teenager, maybe it’s because YA isn’t always given the credit it’s due. But the truth is, I can’t imagine myself ever leaving the genre behind. No matter where I roam in the writing universe, this genre is one I find myself coming back to again and again.
Although young adult literature has evolved and expanded, especially in the last fifteen years, the YA fantasy shelf is also the place I faithfully return to as a reader. The market has shown that I’m not the only one. And while trends tend to ebb and flow, fantasy has been a constant in shifting winds of YA.
