‘I think it is called contentment,’ Doug, a retired GP deliberates. His wife Jan, a painter, explains that they bought their children up here, so it is full of happy memories and the house has grown and shrunk with them. ‘There was plenty of room for our children when they were growing up, but now that they have left it does not seem too big for just the two of us, it has contracted perfectly.’
The wood-burning stove is by Franco belge. The armchairs are from ikea and the sofa was bought in the 1970s from habitat. doug made the coffee table in his workshop. The walls are painted in eau de nil, from the Period colours range by dulux. The blankets are from the Tartan blanket company
