Buying a house on a budget is never easy, especially when it’s for a family of six. So when Jamie Griffiths and husband, John, began house hunting in South London they knew they’d have to take on a project in order to get the home they wanted for children, Freddie, Henry, Ethan and Connie. ‘Our chosen 1920s, four-bedroom semi, offered us the space we needed, but was devoid of character, thanks to a dreadful 70s makeover,’ recalls Jamie. ‘So there was definitely room for improvement.’ And when it came to the dated living area, Jamie was adamant that what was required was, not only a focal point in the form of an inviting open fire, but also a serious injection of personality.
