Information for the traveller
As part of the Imperial War Museum’s (IWM) ‘Transforming Duxford’ project in a bid to boost the airfield as a major tourist destination, the Duxford Aviation Society (DAS) has been forced to move three items from The British Airliner Collection outside permanently. DAS said that the Avro York, de Havilland DH106 Comet 4B and de Havilland DH104 Dove will all be moved from their former hangar home, with the team now turning their attention to their “future preservation”. The Comet and Dove will be slotted into airliner row with the rest of the collection. The former will be parked alongside its BOAC stable mate, the Vickers Super VC10. The latter will be placed at the eastern end of the row next to the Airspeed Ambassador. Meanwhile, the York will be positioned outside hangar 3.
To make room for the Comet, the Aurigny Trislander has been moved to the western end of the line-up, next to the British Airways Landor liveried BAC One-Eleven. The Royal Flight BAe 146 has also been moved outside the Workshop Cafe on the old hangar base.
