SATURN 2020
© NASA/ESA
This exquisitely detailed and stunning image of Saturn was taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope when the gas giant was 1.4 billion kilometres (839 million miles) from Earth. The reddish haze in the northern hemisphere shows Saturn in the height of summer. The red colouration is caused by exposure to sunlight. In the south, however, the blue hues of winter are just about visible beneath Saturn’s rings.
