This cabinet by the influential Italian artist and designer Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) forms part of a private collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco works consigned to a decorative arts auction at London saleroom Rosberys in West Norwood on June 25.
The 3ft 2in x 17in (96 x 44 cm) walnut, ebonized wood, pewter and brass inlaid and hammered brass cabinet dates to c.1900 – a high point in Bugatti’s career when his furniture designs were proving popular at European exhibitions.
This piece carries hopes of £8000-12,000.
