Arms and armour
Fine sets of pistols, preferably nicely cased, have long been the mainstay of London arms and armour sales. This season’s crop were not as plentiful nor so eagerly contested as we sometimes see, but there were some gems on offer and a selection of them are illustrated here.
1. Crisp condition and lots of original finish helped this pair of 40-bore six-shot pepperbox revolvers to £15,000 at Thomas Del Mar on July 10. Made by Westley Richards c. 1850, they were still in their original oak case with some accessories, including a three-way flask and a rammer.
