News in brief

Barbara Kirk Auctions closes

Cornwall saleroom Barbara Kirk Auctions has now closed. Located in the former Trinity House Depot, near Penzance harbour, the business was launched by Barbara Kirk in 2011.

Kirk, who was the firm’s main valuer, auctioneer and sole proprietor has spent nearly 40 years in the antiques business she spent eight years as a dealer standing at fairs and with a shop in Penzance before entering the auction world and working at another Cornish auction house.

A notice on the saleroom’s website stated: ‘Barbara has decided to retire… Thank you all clients, suppliers & friends for your support and the many, many messages & good wishes.’

Judge rules Jackson sale can proceed

A US judge has dismissed a bankruptcy filing that halted the auction of a collection of drawings by pop star Michael Jackson (1958-2009) in August.

The ruling means the group of 78 drawings, believed to have been created by Jackson in the late 1980s and 90s, can now be offered at King’s Auctions on October 5.
