Inveraray soldier died on first day

ONE of the names on the Inveraray war memorial is that of Private Alexander McVicar, who was killed on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme.

His father, Donald, was an Inveraray man, while Susan, Alexander’s mother, came from Campbeltown.

Inveraray remembers and, inset, one of two crosses donated by Midton Acrylics.
