The tradition of Mothering Sunday dates back hundreds of years to Britain’s early Christians, who celebrated a mothers’ festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent in honour of the Virgin Mary. Some say that this festival replaced the pagan celebration of the Roman mother goddess, Cybele, which goes back thousands of years.
These days, Mother’s Day is all about treating mum like the queen that she is, and there are lots of ways to make sure she has a wonderful time, from a special gift to afternoon tea at her favourite cafe.
