Arran by nature is a veritable renewable power station, water flows down its magnificent hills, winds blow over the hilltops, tides are high, and the sun shines ‘most of the time’. At Arran Eco Savvy, our current project funded by the Scottish Government‘s Climate Challenge Fund focusses on energy efficiency and renewables at a domestic level. However, as the charity evolves we aspire for this at a much larger scale on the island.
Our project offers locals: home energy audits, EPCs which are required for renewable installation repayments, and tailored action plans all free of charge. The government subsidies for domestic renewables such as the Feed in Tariff are decreasing quarterly, with the cut-off date for securing 20yrs of repayments from solar PV being April 2019. This impending deadline along with the continual fuel price hikes means we are encouraging locals to take advantage now and create their own electricity! Give us a call on 01770 302 642 or email ecosavvy.energychallenge@gmail.com for more information and to book your free energy audit.
If we can drive the renewable model forward on Arran perhaps we can be a shining example for Scotland, and our ‘Scotland in Miniature’ status will be a forward-thinking legacy for generations.
