INTERIOR DESIGNER JAMIE IVEY WORKED HARD TO MAXIMIZE COUNTER-SPACE BY COMING UP WITH A TWO-ISLAND SOLUTION. “HAVING TWO SMALLER ISLANDS MADE THE FLOW BETWEEN BOTH SIDES OF THE KITCHEN MORE EFFICIENT,” SHE EXPLAINS. THE FRONT ISLAND IS RESERVED FOR QUICK MEALS AND CHATS, WHILE THE BACK ISLAND HAS THE SINK AND A FOOD-PREP AREA.

TO MATCH THE DEEPLY SATURATED NAVY BLUES ON THE CEILING PERIMETER AND THE LOWER CABINETS, JAMIE FOUND A LOVELY QUARTZITE WITH BLUE VEINING. BY WRAPPING THE FRONT ISLAND, HOOD, COUNTERTOPS AND BACKSPLASH WITH THIS BOLD MATERIAL, THE KITCHEN FEELS STREAMLINED AND MODERN. THE UPPER CABINETS DO NOT HAVE HARDWARE, ADDING TO THE CLEAN-LINED LOOK.
