Bisexual comic Joe Lycett tells Christian Guiltenane why he prefers chocolate to sex

It’s been a good year for 26-year-old rising comedian Joe Lycett. Not only has his TV profile risen with appearances on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and 8 out of 10 Cats, he’s also found himself as one of the hottest men in the world. Last year, for a bit of a lark, he encouraged his twitter followers to vote for him in the Attitude Hot 100. They did and got him in at number 57. He clearly tapped into something, comedy or not, and this year he has stormed up the chart to an astonishing number 10. Not bad going for someone who happily admits that he is not a fan of keeping fit. Even though it’s a triumph for the regular guy, when we catch up with the bisexual comedian on location for this ‘laddy’ shoot, we can see why he’s been such a hit for a second year running. But although he’s happy with his place in our readers’ poll, he’s keen to assure us that he doesn’t take any of it seriously. He also tells us that even though he is a flamboyant bisexual – with twice as many dating options – he is still finding it difficult to find the one.

It wasn’t so much of a campaign. Two Tweets and a Facebook post. But it’s all done tongue-in-cheek. I mean, I imagine you guys at Attitude never had me in mind when you launched the Hot 100. So, when I did it last year I thought I was being funny. I remember being asked along to the awards. It was really funny that I got such mileage out of it. I even took a copy of that issue with me to some of my shows to remind people that I was named the 57th sexiest man in the world, well according to your readers. Now I can say I am 10th in the world. Fancy!
