AS TOLD TO: CHRIS GODFREY PHOTOGRAPHY: MARKUS BIDAUX
Three years ago, the first same-sex couples got married in the UK. The law changed for them but when I wed my partner Tony, in April 2015, I was not afforded the same rights. That’s because I am a Church of England vicar. The Church may like the world to think it isn’t homophobic but at an official level that’s exactly what it is. Bishops may squeal that this is not true but their case is undermined by their own deeds and documents.
