Little Minxes

Little Mix are back to shake things up with a fresh concoction of girl power. Ingredients include strength, sass, sexiness and a sprinkle of Black Magic

As birthday celebrations go, getting the chance to hang out with Little Mix is right up there. Beats the time I dramatically led from a packed restaurant in a torrent of tears during my friends and family’s rendition of Happy Birthday — but that’s a story for another time. I marked my 33rd year on this planet in the company of Jade Thirlwall, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards at a killer photoshoot (see for yourselves) in London.

Rocking fabulous, almost floor-length weaves, the ladies unleashed their inner minxes with the help of five sexy, scantily clad male models, who were giving us leather/fetish/German policeman realness. Bang me up, officer, and throw away the key.

The boys provided plenty of entertainment by sporadically dropping to the studio floor to perform press-ups between takes. I built up a sweat just watching, or, more accurately ogling, them. It was like being at Barry’s Bootcamp (although I’ve never been).

Looking at these young women firmly in control — including Jade hitching a piggy-back on her chisel-jawed hunk of man flesh — and at the top of their game, their appearance as fresh-faced, nervous teenagers facing the music on the 2011 series of The X Factor (which, obvs, they won) feels like aeons ago. Since then they’ve become the biggest girl band in the world, and one with a huge heart that beats particularly loudly for their most loyal fan base: the gays!

Last month, we named Jade, Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Perrie as our Honorary Gays at the Attitude Awards.

On top of giving us divine ditties to shake our booties to, the four have consistently used their platform to shine a beacon on the LGBT+ community, be it vocally supporting our rights or shutting down bigots on social media.

I’ve interviewed Little Mix a few times over the years and, as ever, they are fierce, fun and full of fighting talk as we discuss everything from their upcoming (fifth) album — which is banging — and their critics (no, their outfits are not too revealing), to rumours that they don’t actually get along. For what it’s worth, I can’t sense a Geri-in-the-Spice- Girls situation brewing.

They are also incredibly sincere. My evidence? They told me that I look much younger than my true age and they couldn’t possibly be lying. I will be passing their feedback on to my cosmetic surgeon Dr Tucker Fillerwitz. I knew I shouldn’t have been worried when he told me he didn’t have any medical certificates…
