MAN OF THE MONTH
LLOYD CLEVERLEY, 26, FARRIER, BROMSGROVE, WORCESTERSHIRE
What’s your morning routine? I will probably snooze my alarm for about half hour, then realise I am going to be late and race around the house. I will grab some food and a much-needed cup of tea, then be out of the door to my first client.
What’s a day like at work? It generally consists of going to different horse yards, as everything is mobile in the back of the van. I will either shoe or simply trim the horses’ feet depending on what the owner wants. If it’s being shod, I remove the old shoes that have been on for six weeks, I trim the foot back using cutters and a rasp, then I fit a new shoe after it has been heated in the forge. It’s then cooled down and nailed on and finished off. This is usually done while drinking far too many cups of tea and eating cake.
