The failure of a Rolls-Royce engine on a Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330 has been classed as a serious incident by the National Transportation Safety Board. The jet, N375HA (c/n 1606), was operating a positioning flight from Everett to Seattle when the engine failed. The crew declared an emergency and landed at Seattle with the engine emitting flames. The FAA reported that the flames died out once the engine had been shut down and before the fire brigade arrived on scene. The nacelle, pylon, wing and flaps sustained damage. The investigation continues. (Photo AirTeamImages.com/Timo Breidenstein)
