In possibly the most significant shake-up to its workflow since the transition from version 9 to X, Logic Pro X 10.5 swings away from the linear timeline arrangement method and takes a leaf out of Ableton Live’s book with the new Live Loops feature. A switchable alternative to the traditional Tracks area, the Live Loops grid is a nonlinear method of producing and composing that enables you to arrange parts in individual cells that can be played back as different loop lengths in sync with the project tempo. Each cell can contain an audio file or a MIDI performance and can be triggered individually or in vertical combinations called ‘scenes’. Keen to know more? Read on for an introduction to the basics of this different approach to arranging your Logic projects.
