Going to school can be a real challenge for individuals with autism. There is often a lack of understanding and awareness of hidden disabilities, and this can lead to teachers not being equipped to support those who need it most.

Masking
Masking is a term that describes someone who hides their true personality and is a common trait of autism. Individuals mask because they want to fit in with others or because they are in an uncomfortable environment.
Girls are often very good at masking, and this is one of the reasons why there is a lower number of girls being diagnosed with autism.
