Uninsurable
I’m on my fourth Range Rover over the last 20 years – an Autobiography that I bought in 2016 and has done only 50,000 miles.
I read that thefts of Range Rovers have pushed up insurance costs considerably, and indeed my renewal quote was double. So I tried JLR’s own insurance offering, launched recently to help customers get reasonable insurance.
Iam 76, have a clean driving record and have no claims for more than 25 years. My car is stored in a locked garage here in rural Scotland and does only 5000 miles per year of social domestic travel. On the face of it, a very low risk. So I wonder why Land Rover Insurance wasn’t prepared to even give me a quote.
I won’t be buying another Range Rover if JLR won’t even support its loyal customers.

JLR said: “Unfortunately, we can’t offer all clients a quote, as eligibility is subject to a multitude of factors, but we’re absolutely committed to offering as many clients as possible a solution and we’re working continuously to expand our offering. Our insurance is still in its infancy, but as we accumulate more data, we’re able to build a more detailed risk picture, meaning we can expand cover to more clients. We’ve already offered over 15,000 quotes and our monthly rate is accelerating as our data matures: December quotes were 3563 and January quotes were 6789. We’re confident that this will continue to improve with time.”
