China’s biggest car exporter finally reaches the UK. First up, a family EV
Bynow you’ve probably at least heard of Omoda and Jaecoo. The two brands have been created by Chinese-state-owned Chery, which is the country’s most prolific vehicle exporter and now keen to make inroads in Europe.
Incidentally, it’s also a longstanding partner of JLR and is providing the architecture for the rebirth of the Freelander in China – but let’s not digress.
While Jaecoo is targeting the SUV market with models such as the £35,000 petrol-engined 7 (Range Rover Velar beltline meets Ford F-150 snout), Omoda is wading into the horrifically competitive medium-sized crossover arena with the petrol 5 and its electric counterpart, the E5.
