TESTER’S NOTES
Time for a quick review of Gran Turismo 7, now that the latest PlayStation driving game has been out for a few weeks. In brief, I like it.
I like the physics model, which makes cars behave a lot like, in my experience, the real thing. Some serious online sim racers prefer more serious software, but I think Gran Turismo 7 models road cars really well; although its drift and rally modes are still its weakest points.
I’ve not yet spent bags of time playing it, but I’m less enthused by the singleplayer mode, which is too prescriptive. Gran Turismo has never had a plot like, say, Grand Theft Auto, but the developers have seemingly tried to invent one. Some weird beard in a cafe sets you challenges before he’s prepared to unlock certain cars, circuits or races, which is pretty tiresome. When I’ve just spent £70 on a game, let me choose my own path through it.
