Misled lemmings
EVs appear to me to be a backward step from most perspectives.
There’s no compelling independent evidence to show that, globally, over a full life-cycle analysis, they emit less pollution than the latest ICE cars. So they may be good for Piccadilly, but they’re worse for the planet.
They’re about 40% more expensive to buy than the equivalent ICE car once the inevitably temporary government subsidies disappear.
They’re about 40% heavier than the equivalent ICE car, thereby generating 40% more pollution from road surfaces, tyres and brakes.
They will be no cheaper to run once market price electricity and/or road pricing inevitably comes in.
The cost and pollution involved in building a charging network is huge.
The opportunity cost of the wasted hours waiting for a charge is huge.
Entirely pollution-free electricity for that charging is decades away.
Experian research reports that nearly 40% of EV owners don’t buy another when they return to market.
So the current EV hysteria seems to be driven by lots of misled lemmings!
