PROPER SUPER- SUVs
ON SALE JUNE
As Nissan’s Europe chairman, Guillaume Cartier, told us: “SUVs are the future; people want more for their money.” And the most they can get, for the most money, comes in the form of a super-SUV, pairing family haul-ability with startling pace and sharp handling. It’s an enticing mix, and one that is proving to be popular.
Sufficiently popular, in fact, to have persuaded even Lotus – that last bastion of lightness and compact proportions – to launch a searingly quick high-rider. But it’s not just Hethel pushing the hot high-rider in 2023. Here are the ones that will grab the main headlines this year.
LOTUS ELETRE
Lotus will capitalise on the growing SUV trend with one of its own – its first model with more than two adult-sized seats in over 30 years. Claimed to be the world's fastest dual-motor electric SUV, the Eletre will arrive in June with a £120,000, 893bhp range-topping R model. With 726lb ft, it packs enough poke to surge from 0-62mph in 2.95sec – as quick as a Ferrari 296 GTB.
