NIGEL MANSELL 'HOW I CONQUERED F1'
He lost at the last race in 1986, came close in ’87, and was runner-up for a third time in ’91. Then twenty five years ago Nigel Mansell finally secured his place in the history books by winning the world championship at the age of 39. It had been a long slog and he endured a lot of pain along the way, both real and metaphorical. He also had to silence the critics who doubted that he would ever reach the top level. “It feels like one hundred and fifty years ago and then it feels like yesterday,” says Mansell. “It’s extraordinary as we all get older, isn’t it? You get a lot wiser, and I think that’s why I feel so blessed and happy now in later years. At least we’ve been there and done it. And I have some wonderful memories.”
